The MLS is back and for their first game of the season, the New York Red Bulls face off against Toronto FC which promises to be an exciting curtain-raiser for both teams. New York has made a bold decision in preseason, preferring to promote youth rather spend outrageous in the transfer market on new talent. In fact, they signed 7 homegrown players through their academy system, which should make for an interesting season ahead.
Most importantly, they also managed to keep star players Luis Robles, Dax McCarty and Mike Grella. However, a big miss this season will be rookie central defender Matt Miazga, who departed to the Premier League giants Chelsea in February.
Toronto, on the other hand, pose a massive threat going forward with Italian striker Sebastian Giovinco. The 5’5″ striker bagged 24 goals last season in his MLS bow and he is a key pick for most fans’ Fantasy Soccer Manager teams.
Toronto also have strong US striker Jozy Altidore, who found his feet again in the MLS in 2015 after failing in the Premier League for Sunderland. The Canadians also boast US star midfielder Michael Bradley as their captain. His tireless energy will make this a very hard game for New York.
It’s a tough game to call, but Toronto will fancy their chances of winning this one on the road. Either way, it promises to be an intriguing match-up that you won’t want to miss.
