What an upset! Miesha Tate actually did it. The former Strikeforce champ took down Holly Holm in the UFC 196 co-main event and what a fight it was — Miesha took home the belt after five rounds in the ring. Find out more details here!
Holly Holm and Miesha Tate went head-to-head on March 5 at the famous MGM Grand in Las Vegas for the bantamweight championship. Right from the start, you could feel the energy from both girls and it was intense.
Holly walked into the ring a defender and walked out belt-less! It was Holly’s big return to the octagon, following her epic win over Ronda Rousey. Round one was tough to watch, if you were a Miesha fan. Within seconds, her face was busted and Tate could barley open her left eye. The second round was a different story. Miesha took Holly down and it was brutal. This third round proved both girls could throw and land solid punches, but nothing too crazy happened. It wasn’t until the fifth round that it was Miesha who put Holly to sleep — literally. Miesha Tate is officially the new women’s Bantamweight UFC champ!
Before fight night, Holly told the press, “I know people are wondering: ‘What’s really going to happen now, is she the real deal? All that pressure I put on myself, that’s what I’m here for… I’m constantly improving and I want to keep getting better.”

Prior to the fight, Miesha spouted off a few digs at the champ saying, “I’ve seen her wobbled a couple of times with some punches that didn’t look like they were anything more than I could deliver, that’s for sure. Landing a solid right hand I think definitely is going to put her down.”
What we learned from tonight was anything can happen — just like the Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor fight!
