As Kesha fights for justice against Dr. Luke, Kelly Clarkson spoke out about her not-so-great experience working with the producer — and even admitted that her label ‘blackmailed’ her into working with him. Get the crazy details here!
Kelly Clarkson is one of the many artists that have defended Kesha in her lawsuit troubles with producer Dr. Luke, but she is taking her defense one step further by opening up about her own experience with him. The 33-year-old singer doesn’t speak highly of Dr. Luke whatsoever, revealing something that could put Sony in question once again. She only worked with Dr. Luke because she was ‘blackmailed’ into it!
“I get along with everyone I work with, and he’s just not a good guy to me. Obviously he’s a talented dude, but he’s just lied a lot,” Kelly told Australia’s KIIS 1065 Kyle & Jackie O Breakfast Show. “I’ve run into a couple of really bad situations like, musically it’s been really hard for me because he will just lie to people. And it makes the artist look bad, and he’s kind of difficult to work with, kind of demeaning. It’s just kind of unfortunate.” She continued, “Even the last time I worked with him, I only worked with him because literally I got blackmailed by my label. They were like, ‘They will not put your album out if you don’t do this.'” To hear more about Kesha, head over to iTunes and download the latest HollywoodLife podcast for free!
Although Kelly did say that Dr. Luke never tried to sexually assault her, it’s still alarming that she and Kesha faced similar treatment from Sony when it came to working with Dr. Luke. If you haven’t been following Kesha’s case, she was denied the ability to terminate her contract with Sony despite her allegations that Dr. Luke had drugged and raped her when she was a teenager. With six more albums remaining in her contract, Sony has offered for Kesha to work with producers other than Dr. Luke, but she is afraid that any new music she creates will not get proper promotion unless Dr. Luke is involved.
After the court ruled against Kesha on Feb. 19, several celebs including Kelly expressed their support for the “TiK ToK” singer on Twitter. While Kelly’s initial tweet indicated that she’s not a fan of Dr. Luke, she held nothing back when elaborating on Kesha’s situation on the radio show.
“I think her fans are wanting a lot of artists that have worked with him that don’t work with him anymore for pretty good, solid reasons. He’s just not a good person to me. We’ve clashed. But I can’t really say anything other than that,” she said. “I wasn’t there, and I don’t know specifically what happened in their situation. Obviously I wasn’t in the room. But I can remark on his character, and unfortunately when you have that poor of character, so many artists don’t like working with you and that’s not normal.”
Dr. Luke spoke out on the controversy himself just days after the verdict, taking to Twitter to deny everything that Kesha had claimed. But after hearing Kelly’s story, it’s clear that Kesha isn’t the only one who Dr. Luke had some trouble getting along with.
