These personal memories are bittersweet, as the pictures of Joey and Rory performing on stage is followed by an image of Joey battling her terminal stage 4 cervical cancer. The video is hard to watch, knowing that Joey has already said her final good-byes, but her husband shared it as a celebration of his beloved’s life.
“I could barely listen or watch at first,” Rory said in an emotional Feb. 29 blog post that announced his wife had just days to live. “But then, as I listened and watched more… I smiled more and I cried less. In the time that God gave her… I believe Joey’s given all she could give. She’s loved all she could love and lived all she could live.”
As Joey prepares for her final days, having halted all treatments for the fatal disease, her husband is sharing all the good times they had. He revealed a home video taken during a 2015 Hawaiian vacation, where Joey and her daughter are all smiles as they walk along a gorgeous beach. “There was no music, no plan, no rush … just us all being together as a family. I loved it,” Rory wrote.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Joey, Rory and the rest of their family and friends.
