Breaking down in tears on ‘American Idol’ last week wasn’t easy for Kelly Clarkson, but there was a laundry list of reasons she was so emotional in that moment. The singer talks all about it to Ellen DeGeneres in a brand new interview — watch here!
We don’t blame Kelly Clarkson for hysterically crying in the middle of her American Idol performance on Feb. 25! Not only was the song subject super emotional, but there was a whole lot more going on for the Season 1 winner’s head at that moment, and she’s dishing all about it to Ellen DeGeneres. Check out the interview here!
As we previously reported, Kelly has a strained relationship with her father, so singing the song “Piece By Piece,” about finding a man she never expected, who loves her and their kids, was incredibly taxing on the 33-year-old. Throw in the fact that she was just weeks away from giving birth AND on the stage that gave her her start for the very last time…and it was obviously a lot.
“I cried the whole time,” Kelly tells Ellen, admitting she was pretty embarrassed about her breakdown. “I didn’t realize it was gonna be that bad. And we were rehearsing that day and I just couldn’t get through it. My one-year-old is running around the same hallway as I was at 19.” As you can see, everything came together at once for the “Heartbeat” singer, and she just couldn’t hold the tears in. We certainly don’t blame her! Stream Kelly’s music completely unlimited and ad-free RIGHT HERE.
Kelly’s husband, Brandon Blackstock, was also there, and since he’s such a big part of the song, it all hit her pretty hard. “He was there, my little girl was there and my little boy was like turning circles in my stomach,” she adds. “It was, like, nostalgic. It was the last time I was gonna be on Idol and it’s ending. I was screwed from the get-go. Emotionally, I was on a slip and slide from hell.” Awww!
