Leonardo DiCaprio had a huge smile on his face while accepting the Best Actor award at the Oscars on Feb. 28, but was he subtly slamming the Academy on stage?! We couldn’t help but notice that Leo had a very particular finger sticking out during his speech…
The time has finally come! Leonardo DiCaprio, 41, finally won an Academy Award at the 2016 show, and everyone is talking about the very specific way he’s holding the paper with his name on it while accepting the trophy on stage. Did he mean to stick out his middle finger as a jab to the Academy?!

Leo was gracious and all smiles while giving his thanks, but his middle finger was noticeably sticking out front and center as he held onto his trophy and the winner’s envelope. This was Leo’s sixth time being nominated for an Academy Award, and it’s safe to say that practically every viewer was hoping he’d finally get the win — and it happened! In his speech, the actor thanked everyone he worked on The Revenant with, as well as his friends and family who’ve been there with him since the very beginning. But, he closed out his acceptance by raising awareness about climate change, an issue he’s spoken out about on many occasions. After the show, though, he gushed about just how happy he was to finally have this moment. “I grew up in East Los Angeles,” Leo told reporters. “I was very close to the Hollywood studio system, but I felt detached from it my whole life. And to have parents that allowed me to be part of this industry , to take me on auditions every day after school, and to tell stories like this has been my dream ever since I was 4 years old.” Stream Leo’s movies by signing up for Amazon Prime RIGHT HERE.
While Leo was clearly thrilled to finally get his Oscar — if you haven’t seen this video of him getting it engraved yet, you HAVE to check it out — there was probably no one more excited than his Titanic co-star and longtime friend, Kate Winslet. She was in tears while he accepted the honor, and was photographed lovingly hugging him afterward. So sweet! Literal friendship goals FOREVER.
HollywoodLifers, do you think Leo was subtly giving the finger to the Oscars?!
