Jurgen Klopp will be looking for his first trophy as Liverpool coach when he takes his team to Wembley Stadium to square off against Manchester City in the Capital One Cup Final. Can he take the reds to glory in his first season? Or will City spoil the party and avenge their 4-1 thrashing from earlier in the Premier League season? Click down for the live stream and find out!
It was their best performance of the season and one they will look to repeat. When Liverpool went to City’s Etihad Stadium back in November last year, few gave them a prayer. But they tore The Citizens to pieces that day, with the Brazilian attacking duo, who are international teammates of tax-owing superstar Neymar, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho a menace to City’s back line.
But that was in the Premier League. This is a Cup Final, and City will want to go out on a high for their manager Manuel Pellegrini, who will be leaving at the end of the current season and be replaced by the handsome Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola.
After their FA Cup debacle at Chelsea where they played a weakened team and got thrashed 5-1, City will likely be full strength in this one, with Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure providing their own attacking threat.
However, the problem with city, which has been their achilles heel this season, is their defense. With their captain Vincent Kompany, who is arguably the best defender in English soccer, only recently returning from a long injury lay-off it’s unlikely he will be risked in this one. Especially after playing the full 90 minutes midweek in their Champions League win over Dynamo Kiev.
With that in mind, City will have to turn to Eliaquim Mangala in the heart of their defense. Unfortunately for City, he hasn’t been the most reliable this season and Liverpool might just see hope in winning this one.
