When it comes to red carpets, Kate Winslet, 40, isn’t typically one to deviate from her signature sleek and sophisticated style. But all of that changed at the 88th annual Academy Awards on Feb. 28 when the Steve Jobs actress stepped out in a custom-made Ralph Lauren gown that was as shiny as it was risky. The dress may have perfectly showcased her gorgeous figure, but it was a disappointing look for the actress nonetheless. Do you agree? Vote below!
Having been nominated for the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ award for her role in Steve Jobs, Kate made sure all eyes were on her when she hit the Oscars red carpet on Feb. 28. But rather than sticking to her signature minimalist-style gowns, this year’s show saw the Titanic actress stepping out in a very questionable black strapless Ralph Lauren number. While the dress’s silhouette hugged her gorgeous curves to perfection, it’s shiny, almost rubber-looking material no doubt had some eyebrows raised. It definitely wasn’t what we expected to see Kate in, so in that respect, we have to give her some points for creativity, but it’s a cringe-worthy look nonetheless.
Meanwhile in terms of beauty, Kate’s look was nothing short of immaculate. The British beauty opted for a more laid-back, beachy waves hairstyle that looked absolutely flawless — especially when teamed with her jaw-dropping Nirav Modi diamond chandelier earrings! As for her makeup, the Lancome ambassador went for a fresh, minimal look punctuated by a glowing skin, perfectly sculpted brows and a rosy nude lip.

Overall, this has been quite the impressive awards season for the Titanic actress, who, on top of securing her seventh Oscars nod, also recently took home the awards for ‘Best Supporting Actress’ at the 2016 British Academy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards.
As for her part in Steve Jobs, Kate gives a powerful performance as Joanna Hoffman, the Eastern European marketing executive who helps to steer Steve Jobs’s computer companies to success. The film, directed by Danny Boyle, has been one of the most talked about movies of the year, earning a long list of accolades including two Oscar nominations and four Golden Globe nominations.

This year, Kate will go up against Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Alicia Vikander and Jennifer Jaosn Leigh, who were all also nominated, for their roles in the films Carol, Spotlight, The Danish Girl and The Hateful Eight, respectively. While it’s too early to tell if Kate will take home the industry’s highest honor, we do have high hopes for the actress tonight. Of course, you’ll have to tune into the awards ceremony (airing at 8pm EST on ABC) to find out!
