Kelly Clarkson wasn’t exactly expecting the huge response she got after performing ‘Piece By Piece’ on the Feb. 25 episode of ‘American Idol.’ In fact, she recently released a statement, saying she’s completely ‘overwhelmed’ and ‘in tears’ because of the ‘magical’ moment.
Kelly Clarkson, 33, was already the queen of American Idol, but during her emotional performance of “Piece By Piece” on the Feb. 25 episode, she basically proved why she’s the best winner to have ever come out of the show. She captivated viewers with her sad song, and because of that, it’ll be a moment she never forgets.
“I am still overwhelmed and in shock from last night. The response to ‘Piece By Piece’ has me in tears,” Kelly told Entertainment Weekly in a statement. “To say last night was nostalgic would be an understatement. It was an unforgettable moment and to have my family and friends there with me made it even more magical.”
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Kelly had everyone in tears, including Keith Urban, when she performed the song about her father abandoning her as a child. The singer previously shared details about how “Piece by Piece” came to fruition during an interview with Glamour magazine. She said, “I had [my daughter] River. Even from holding her the first day, I was like, how could anyone walk away from that? Then I started thinking that my husband [Brandon Blackstock, 39] is such a great father. He’s not an audience guy — he is onstage doing the work with me. He changes diapers, he stays up, and if I’ve had a late night, he’ll wake up with her in the morning. We’re definite partners, and I felt so lucky.”

“I was talking to my sister on the phone about how sometimes girls with daddy issues don’t find men like that!,” she continued. “You find men who are all you knew, and I just feel so lucky. It’s a positive song, even though I know it sounds sad. I don’t know what my father went through as a child, and I don’t know why he left and made the decisions he made, but everyone’s human. I don’t understand it for me, but I understand the depth of what that is—having a child—now, and he’s made me want to be that much more present in my family.”
Wow. So powerful.
