It was going to be one of the biggest fights of the year — not anymore. Rafael dos Anjos has pulled out of the UFC 196 main event match against Conor McGregor, just two weeks before the big showdown. Click for all the details!
This is major! Rafael dos Anjos has shocked everyone by pulling out of his huge UFC 196 fight with Conor McGregor after suffering an injured foot. He was set to defend his UFC lightweight title against the current featherweight champion in Las Vegas on March 5.
Brazilian fighter, Rafael dos Anjos has taken himself out of the highly anticipated fight against the Irish powerhouse. He told the press that he suffered a foot injury and wouldn’t be able to take the match. This means the UFC has to scramble to find a replacement to fight Conor in under two weeks’ notice. Poor Conor, this is literally happening to him all over again. It was just last summer when Jose Aldo withdrew from his fight against the crazy Irishman just days before UFC 189. We have no doubt Conor will face off with another fighter, but will it be the same dynamics? Probably not, but any Conor fight is worth paying for!
Don’t worry fans, Holly Holm will still be taking on Miesha Tate for the UFC women’s bantamweight title which will remain the co-main event for the March 5 card for now. The event is set for Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena.
