“As most people know, I tend to get fired up about the things I believe in, and although my heart and intentions are always in the right place, unfortunately sometimes my passion gets the best of me and causes me to say things I probably shouldn’t say,” she wrote. “And when doing so it takes away from the real reason I am speaking up in the first place. Our focus should be on the topic of victims of sexual and physic abuse being afraid to come forward with their stories. They’re more likely to face retaliation and harassment than to see justice being served. Especially women.”
In case you missed all the drama that went down, here’s a little recap. Taylor gave Kesha $250,000 after the “Tik Tok” singer lost her lawsuit against Sony, forcing her to work for the same label where her alleged rapist, Dr. Luke, is employed (Luke as vehemently denied claims that he sexually assaulted Kesha). Demi wasn’t impressed with the monetary contribution, though, and tweeted, “Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I’ll be impressed.” Stream music from Demi, Taylor and more artists completely unlimited and ad-free RIGHT HERE.
After taking major heat from Swifties for the tweet, Demi defended herself and insisted she wasn’t “shading” the 26-year-old. “There’s no ‘rivalry,'” she wrote. “I just give more f**ks than other people and would rather start a dialogue ABOUT WOMEN COMING FORWARD ABOUT BEING RAPED than throw money at one person.” Well, hopefully her new Instagram message is enough for Tay not to take this one too personally!
