Uh oh! There’s some bad blood brewing between two of our hottest young female singers, Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato. It’s all over Kesha’s recent legal setback and while Taylor’s trying to help, Demi’s throwing some major shade.
Taylor Swift, 26, has played guardian angel to Kesha, 28 by sending her a great big check for $250,000 to help with any of her financial needs during her continuing fight with Sony Music. The “Tik Tok” singer lost her bid to be released from her six-album deal with Sony, which could put her in contact with her tormentor, super producer Dr. Luke. But Demi Lovato, 23, thinks the gesture is pretty weak and Tay should be doing more. Read on for why Demi’s comment — while well-intentioned — is totally off the mark.
On Feb. 21, it was revealed that “In a show of support, Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to Kesha to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time,” a spokesperson for Taylor told Billboard magazine. I think that’s a really great gesture and as the statement says, it’s a show of support so Tay’s clearly on Kesha’s side in this fight. But for Demi, she was clearly not moved, tweeting out “Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I’ll be impressed.” While she didn’t mention Taylor by name, it’s pretty clear where that shade was directed.

I think it’s amazing that Taylor is helping out Kesha, and her actions totally speak volumes for Tay’s support of the singer. After all, Kesha really hasn’t had a source of income since her battle with Dr. Luke started in 2014, as she hasn’t been able to make any new music and tour in support of it. Plus she hired super attorney Mark Geragos to get the job done in court and he doesn’t come cheap. Kesha’s legal fees at this point must be through the roof and we’re sure Taylor’s money will help offset some of his costs. Get a “Swiftie pendant necklace by clicking here.
Plus, I don’t think Demi really understands how things work in this case within the legal system, because there’s nothing Congress can do to help Kesha in this matter. It’s a contract dispute between two parties – Kesha and Sony Music – that needs to be decided by a civil court judge. Sure she can appeal the matter to a higher court, but that takes a lot of time and a lot more money, two of things Kesha doesn’t have if she wants to rescue her stalled career. So we’re sure Taylor’s donation to Kesha is greatly appreciated and it’s great that both Demi and Tay care so much about Kesha’s plight. There’s just no need for shade over it.
HollywoodLifers, are you Team Taylor or Team Demi when it comes to their support of Kesha?
