He was a band leader on SNL for 10 years
Dr. Luke was the lead guitarist on Saturday Night Live starting in 1997, leaving after the 2006-2007 season. His work was so revered that he performs jingles and ads on the show, as well as in real life. He was frequently lifted to play for acts like Herbie Hancock, Michael Bolton, Phoebe Snow, Jack McDuff and Shabba Ranks. He also played in the house band for Amateur Night at the Apollo.
He was a well-known DJ in NYC
During his SNL days, Dr. Luke started DJ-ing in New York City, and quickly became a fixture in the underground hiphop scene. He started producing and mixing tracks, even for artists like Mos Def. He was getting bigger and bigger, and met huge producer Max Martin at a party. The rest was history.
He’s worked with an incredible number of mainstream artists.
Dr. Luke is responsible for producing hits for an insane amount of artists: Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, Britney Spears, B.o.B., Avril Lavigne, 3Oh!3, and of course, Kesha. He’s been nominated for Grammys
A lot of those hits and albums have gained him major recognition. At The Grammys, he was nominated in 2011 for Album of the Year for Teenage Dream, in 2014 Song of the Year for “Roar,” and Producer of the Year multiple times.
