Poor Rihanna. Her career is a complete mess right now, with her new album ‘Anti’ not making any waves, followed by her last minute Grammy perfomance cancellation. Now she’s delayed the first eight shows of her upcoming world tour. This girl needs a break!
Rihanna, 27, really needs to slow down and focus on what she does best: cranking out killer songs that we can’t get out of our heads. She did have a big win with her Fenty for Puma fashion line, but musically nothing has been going her way. Anti is her first album in three years and we were expecting some mega-hits off of it, but none of the songs have had a breakout. RiRi needs to postpone her tour and get back to making music that we really want to hear live!
It didn’t come as a total shock that Rihanna pushed back the first eight shows of her “Anti” tour because in the wake of her sudden Grammy cancellation just hours before she was to take the stage, something is clearly wrong in her camp. While “vocal chord issues” were given as the reason for missing her performance Feb. 15, the tour delay proves there’s something much bigger going on behind the scenes for RiRi. Clearly she’s exhausted, overwhelmed and not ready to be hitting nearly 70 cities to perform a grueling show every night.

I think the best thing Rihanna could do for herself and her fans is go back to the drawing board and chalk up Anti as a bust. She has so many amazing and memorable hits, but her new album sure didn’t provide any. She could have had Sia‘s “Cheap Thrills” which the Aussie singer/songwriter first offered RiRi but her team turned it down. What were they thinking? Sia provided her with the amazing 2012 hit “Diamonds” and knows Rihanna’s style perfectly.
Rihanna has access to the best songwriters in the world and needs to be picking hits that really stick in our heads. She rocketed to fame off of 2007’s “Umbrella,” because it was one of the catchiest had come out in ages. We’ve still had come great hits from her since then, but with the long wait we had for Anti, I expected a whole lot of blazing songs. None of them has even had decent radio airplay yet! C’mon RiRi, you have such a gorgeous voice and such amazing talent. Don’t worry about touring off the strength of anything on Anti and just go back to square one, regroup, and give us some songs we really want to hear in concert!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Rihanna will be able to pull it together to tour or should she just scrap the whole thing at this point?
