The Trail Blazers have played above expectations this season, and currently sit in the 7th playoff place in the Western Conference thanks to a 27-27 record. But that’s partly due to a lot of under-performing sides in the West that’s given Portland their play-off hope.
But not to do them a disservice, in C.J. McCollum and Damian Lillard they probably have the most underrated backcourt starters in the game. How on earth Damian was snubbed from the NBA All-Star team has been a mystery for most experts in the game.
Meanwhile, Golden State stands on course to break a long-standing record set by Michael Jordan‘s Chicago Bulls back in the 1995-1996 of 72 wins in a season. They currently sit top of the Western Conference with 48 wins from 52 games, and with 30 games to go they’d need to win 25 to break what once seemed an unobtainable record.
It’s a record that’s playing on some of the players’ minds. Klay seemed confident when he was asked by ESPN columnist Marc Stein if they can break the record in a recent job. “Oh, we will,” he confidently replied. But Draymond Green had a more diplomatic response.

“It’ll come up every now and then,” Green told Stein. “But it’s more so, ‘Man, could you imagine if that happened?’ But it’s never like, ‘Hey, let’s focus on getting 72.’ Our focus is always to get better each and every time we step on the floor. And I think if we do that, we get to 72. But if we win 72 or 73 games or 74 and we don’t win a championship, nobody will ever care about the 70-whatever wins in the regular season.”
