Emily Blunt is in talks to play Mary Poppins in a sequel, and I truly believe she’s the only actress who could take on the role Julie Andrews made famous in the 1964 classic. And I’m here to tell you why!
Emily Blunt, 32, is one of the best actresses out there today. Not only can she act, she can sing like nobody’s business. That’s why she’s the perfect actress to play Mary Poppins in a Depression-era sequel. Her performance in Into The Woods was nothing short of fantastic. Please, just give her the role and let her do Julie Andrews, 80, proud!

Okay, so Emily is a flawless human. She can literally do nothing wrong. Every single role she takes on, she tackles and completely slays. After stealing our hearts in The Devil Wears Prada and The Young Victoria, Emily showed a whole new side to her talent with her role as the Baker’s Wife in Into The Woods.
Emily has a breathtaking voice, and it’s essential that Mary Poppins have pipes. The songs Emily sang in Into the Woods, specifically “A Very Nice Prince” and “It Takes Two,” are both works of art. Julie is a singing legend, and Emily’s more than shown she can sing.
Rob Marshall is directing the sequel, and he also directed Emily in Into The Woods. So it’s clear they work well together. Like Julie did, Emily would bring sophistication and class to the role. I just know Emily could make the role her own and also keep true to the character.
This is not a remake. The movie will take place 20 years after the events of the 1964 movie. The news was first reported by our sister site Variety.
“It is not a new Mary Poppins,” Rob told Vulture in a 2015 interview. “P.L. Travers wrote eight books all together. They worked from the first book, and we are working from the other books, not touching the iconic brilliance of Mary Poppins.”
