Pope Francis delivered a divine diss on Donald Trump, saying the Republican presidential candidate is ‘not Christian’ because of his anti-immigrant views. Donald shot back, trashing the head of the Catholic Church by calling the Pope ‘disgraceful’ and a ‘pawn’ of the Mexican government!
Donald Trump, 69, is sure testing his luck with the higher power. The former Celebrity Apprentice star and Republican presidential front-runner decided to pick a fight with Pope Francis, 79, calling the Catholic Church’s leader a disgrace!
This fight of biblical proportions started when the Pope called out Donald’s anti-immigrant and anti-Mexican views. “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian,” Pope Frances told a reporter as he returned from a six-day trip in Mexico, according to the New York Times.
Pope Francis may be a man beloved by millions of Catholics and non-Catholics across the world, but that won’t spare him the wrath from an angry Trump. “For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful,” said Donald in a statement posted to his website on Feb. 18.
“I am proud to be a Christian and as President I will not allow Christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened, unlike what is happening now, with our current President.” Yes, Donald not only slammed the Pope, he managed to get in an insult at President Barack Obama, 54, too.
Donald also accused the Mexican government turning the Pope into a political “pawn” by “[making] many disparaging remarks about me to the Pope, because they want to continue to rip off the United States.” Pope Francis has only heard “one side of the story,” and that the Pontiff has ignored the “drug trafficking and negative economic impact” of illegal immigration, according to Trump. Considering that Pope Francis has been to both Mexico and the United States, he may be more aware of the story than Donald thinks.
“No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith,” Donald continued in his statement. He even doubled-down on the comments at a campaign rally in South Carolina, saying “if and when the Vatican is attacked, the pope would only wish and have prayed that Donald Trump would have been elected president.”
Wow. No one is safe from Donald’s insults. He’s called Ted Cruz, 45, “the biggest liar” ever and has slammed Jeb Bush, 62, and his brother, George W. Bush, 69, for not keeping America safe from the 9/11 attacks. Now, Donald thinks he can blast the Pope. Can Trump win both a Presidential election and pick a fight with a man leading an entire religion? Yeah, good luck with that, Donald!
What do you think about Donald slamming the Pope, HollywoodLifers? Do you agree with The Pope or with The Donald?
