Gooaaaal! The Champions League has reached the Round of 16, and two impressive squads are ready to kick it into high gear on Feb. 17. The legendary Real Madrid will face their Italian brothers, Roma FC, in an epic match and HollywoodLife.com wants you to see every second. Click to watch!
They’ve won the Champions League more than any other team, and Real Madrid is looking to add another tournament victory under its belt with free-scoring Rihanna ex Karim Benzema upfront looking to cause mischief. However, if any team can shut down Real, it’s Roma, the squad that famously eliminated them in 2008. Will history repeat or will Real roll on in this match?
Real Madrid, led by hunky captain Sergio Ramos, 29, will fly to scenic Stadio Olimpico in beautiful Rome, Italy on Feb. 17. However, this won’t be a vacation, as Real will look to secure the victory in Game 1 of the two-game knockout round with Roma. The action is starts off at 2:45 P.M. EST and it’s going to be good, so be sure you’re set to see every thrilling moment.
Real Madrid has won the Champions League a history ten times, and with handsome soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo, 31, returning to top form, they might add one more trophy to their impressive total. Ronaldo scored 11 goals in the group phase, a record according to The Sydney Morning Herald. And if his critics, including financially troubled Brazilian sensation Neymar have anything to say about it — they can just consult the record books!
“Cristiano is very important on the wing because when he attacks one-on-one he’s very good… he’s very hard to defend against,” Real Madrid’s manager, Zinedine Zidane, told reporters. It’s safe to say, if Ronaldo amps up the attack, the Roma Wolves might not stand a chance in this knockout round if he’s on song. We wonder if love interest Kendall Jenner will be watching too.
However, don’t count out Roma just yet. The last time these two teams met in the Champions League, it was in the 2008 Round of 16, per the Telegraph. Roma knocked out Real with two impressive 2-1 victories. But that was eight years ago, and Roma faces a very different Real. That’s why Real Madrid is the favorites going into this game.
Roma’s coach, Luciano Spallett, still thinks his team could prevail in this matchup. In 2008 it was a surprise,” he told reporters on Feb. 16, per ESPN. “Well, we like springing surprises. I would not be amazed at all if we were still fighting in the last minute of the return leg, and I would not be amazed if it was my team who went through.”
Will Roma be the hometown heroes, or will Real Madrid rain on their parade? There’s only one way to find out. HollywoodLifers – who do you think will win this match?
