So heartbreaking. Big Ang passed away in the early hours of Feb. 18 at the young age of 55, a statement on her Twitter confirmed, following earlier false reports of her death. Big Ang had been battling stage 4 brain and lung cancer.
This is so sad. Angela “Big Ang” Raiola lost her battle with cancer on Feb. 18. The Mob Wives star, 55, had been valiantly fighting for her life after being diagnosed with stage 4 brain and lung cancer in Dec. 2015.
“It is with sad regret that we inform you that at 3:01 a.m. Angelia Raiola peacefully ended her battle with cancer, and was called home,” a statement from Vinnie Medugno posted on Big Ang’s Twitter. She was surrounded by nothing but love from her immediate family, and the closest friends. YOU, (her fans) were some of the most special people in the world, and she loved you immensely. Thank you for your love, prayers, and unconditional support of Angela right to the very end.”
We also spoke to Carla Facciolo said: “All I can say is She was bigger than life and I will truly miss her !! All our hearts are broken but I know she will rule the gates of heaven the Big Ang way ..May she rest in peace.”
False reports of Big Ang’s death began circulating before she died. Her Mob Wives co-star, Carla Facciolo, told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY shortly before Big Ang’s death, “She is in bad shape, but she is still breathing.” Her rep also told us at the time that “she’s not dead.” However, she passed away a few hours later.
“At this time that is a false rumor. I am here with the entire family and all her friends and they ask for your continued support and prayers. We will keep everyone updated,” Mob Wives creator Jennifer Graziano also told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY at the time.
Almost two months after doctor’s determined that Big Ang had cancer once again, her sister Janine Detore revealed that Big Ang had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung and brain cancer. Big Ang had begun chemotherapy on Jan. 5, but unfortunately that didn’t help cure her condition — in fact, one tumor had grown larger, and things quickly became more serious than her family could ever have imagined. Janine started a GoFundMe page for her sister, which surpassed its $25,000 goal in just two days.
Like her GoFundMe supporters, Big Ang’s Mob Wives costars have been rooting for her to beat her cancer, as it’s the second time she’s dealing with the disease. Back in March 2015, doctors found a lemon-sized tumor in Big Ang’s throat that was diagnosed as cancerous, for which she underwent surgery. Although she was declared cancer-free in October, it didn’t take long for her to become ill again.
