It was almost 2009 all over again! Don Cheadle had to restrain himself from interrupting Taylor Swift’s Grammy acceptance speech and pulling a ‘Kanye’ when Kendrick Lamar’s album lost to hers! HollywoodLife.com has all the details here.
Talk about a case of history repeating itself! Don Cheadle, 51, admitted on Twitter that he almost pulled what Kayne West, 38, did at the 2009 Video Music Awards with Taylor Swift, 26, but this time at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 15 after she won Album of the Year! Read for more details about his Tweet below.
Earlier in the ceremony, Don introduced Kendrick Lamar’s, 28, epic Grammy performance. It wasn’t until after they announced Taylor’s 1989 album winning over his To Pimp a Butterfly album that he felt the need to pull a “Kanye.” Don tweeted, “I almost Kanyed tonight. #Restraint #Temperance @kendricklamar #AlbumoftheYear.” Good thing he didn’t!
Now what exactly does he mean when he says “Kanyed?” Well, we all remember a little too clearly that back at the 2009 VMA’s, Kanye rudely interrupted Taylor’s acceptance speech for Video of the Year to praise Beyonce Knowles, 34, “Single Ladies” video. Yeah, that’s what we call being “Kanyed.” This time, Beyonce was all for Taylor winning big at the Grammys despite all the Kanye hate towards her. That’s girl power right there!
Don later tweeted that he doesn’t hate Taylor at all. “Tweeps, I’m not a Taylor hater. I think Kendrick’s album is stronger and more deserving. That’s all. My opinion.” Everyone does have a right to their opinion and we guess some people just have a little more self-restraint than others.
Despite Kendrick losing out to Taylor for Album of the Year, he gave an unforgettable performance and also won the Grammy for Best Rap Album and Best Rap performance. These two “Bad Blood” collaborators had a lot to be happy for!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Don would have been right to pull a “Kanye” during Taylor’s acceptance speech? Let us know!
