Ronda Rousey’s loss to Holly Holm affected her far more than anyone thought! While discussing the UFC upset with Ellen DeGeneres, Ronda confessed that after she was defeated, she sincerely thought about ‘killing herself!’ Click to watch!
After Holly Holm, 34, shocked the world by knocking out Ronda Rousey, 29, the former UFC champion had to deal with her very first loss. Ronda admitted to Ellen DeGeneres, 58, that the defeat — and the scary possibility that she could no longer fight — almost drove her to suicide!
When Ronda made an appearance on the Feb. 16 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ellen asked the MMA superstar if she was afraid she suffered some major damage in the fight. “Honestly, my thought,” Ronda said as she started to cry, “I was like, in the medical room and I was down in the corner. I was sitting in the corner like. What am I anymore if I’m not this?” To hear more about Ronda Rousey, head over to iTunes and download the latest HollywoodLife podcast for free!
“And I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself and that exact second I’m like ‘I’m nothing.’ What do I do anymore and no one gives a sh*t about me anymore without this,” Ronda added, admitting that when faced with a life without MMA, she almost chose death!
Oh no! Thankfully, Ronda told Ellen that she was brought back from the edge thanks to her boyfriend, Travis Browne, 33. “To be honest, I looked up and I saw my man Travis was standing up there and I looked up at him and I was like, ‘I need to have his babies,'” Ronda said. “I need to stay alive. Really that was it.” As Ronda wiped away her tears, Ellen and the rest of the audience applauded Ronda for finding the strength to go on.
Ronda definitely has a lot to live for. Not only does she have her romance with Travis, but also Ronda has a blossoming acting career. She slayed on Saturday Night Live and her Bud Light commercial with Amy Schumer, 34, is hilarious! Plus, Ronda was picked to grace the cover of the 2016 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. However, while all those are good, Ronda can’t wait to get back in the ring and face Holly in the epic rematch.
“I do believe all the best things come from the worst things,” Ronda told Ellen. “And maybe I just had to be that example of picking myself up the floor for everyone maybe that’s what I’m meant for. I really do believe I’m still undefeated because being defeated is a choice. Everybody has losses in their life, but I choose to always be undefeated.”
