This is incredibly sad. All four members of British band Viola Beach, along with their manager, have tragically perished in a devastating car crash in Sweden after the vehicle plunged over a bridge. Read on for more details.
All four members of British rock band Viola Beach, Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe and Jack Dakin, along with their manager, Craig Tarry, died on February 13 in Sweden, when the car they were traveling in plunged over a highway bridge into a canal 82ft below. May they all rest in peace. The gruesome accident occurred in Sodertalje, located about 20 miles southwest of Stockholm at 2:00am, according to Inspector Martin Bergholm of the Stockholm police. A section of the bridge was raised, but the band’s car drove through a barrier and through a gap, falling into the canal below.
The UK Foreign Office confirmed the deaths after the accident, and said the department was “in contact with Swedish authorities and supporting the families at this very difficult time.” This was tragically the indie rock band’s first tour outside of the UK. They released their first single, “Swings and Waterslides,” in 2015, and were going to play South by Southwest in Austin, TX in March. This is just too painful to bear.
The band’s record label issued a statement after the tragic deaths, expressing their condolences, and announcing that all proceeds from their single would go to the band’s family. “Everyone here at Communion is in a state of total shock and sorrow, and our thoughts go out to the families and friends of Craig and the band,” read the label’s statement. ““Viola Beach had only recently come into the Communion family, and had everything going for them – great songs, passion, talent, drive… everything that a band should have. To sit down with the band was to sit down with a group of guys whose band you wanted to be in, and to be in the presence of a band who knew just what it would take to make it.”
HollywoodLifers, help us send our condolences to Viola Beach’s loved ones in the comments.
