Russell Westbrook totally deserves to win Most Valuable Player after his amazing performance in the NBA all-star game on Feb. 14. He totally killed it in Toronto, and totally lead the West Division to victory! Talk about some next-level plays, great leadership, plus being just plain fun to watch. Here’s the scoop!
When you’re playing against all-stars like LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant and Steph Curry, it’s pretty meaningful to win Most Valuable Player. But that’s exactly what Russell did on Feb. 14. He went all-in for the 65th annual NBA all-star game and it totally paid off when he was crowned MVP.
Commissioner Adam Silver chose Russell for the honor and announced it after the big game on Valentine’s Day. This MVP award has a special value to Russell, because he was also the winner last year. The last time a player won back-to-back all-star MVP awards was 1958!
Russell totally deserved the win, too. He earned 41 of the West Division’s final 196 points, which let them beat out the East Division with 173 points. He was “so honored” to win the award, and even gave a shout out to his idol, Kobe Bryant, saying it was “a blessing” to be a part of the legend’s last all-star game.
The best part is that the winner gets to choose a charity to send a Kia car to! We’re sure Russell is thrilled about that, too. HollywoodLifers – did you think Russell earned the MVP title this year? Let us know!
