The identities of both girls dead in a murder-suicide at Independence High School in Glendale, AZ have been revealed. And furthermore, it appears that they were in a relationship at the time of their fatal shooting. Click through for more details.
The two Independence High School sophomores, dead of fatal gunshot wounds in a murder-suicide on February 12, have been revealed as Dorothy Dutiel, 15, and May Kieu, also 15. The two girls were very close friends, and it appears that they were in a relationship. This is so unimaginably sad.
Dorothy and May were found outside the school’s cafeteria around 8:00am local time, each with a single gunshot wound, a handgun and suicide note nearby. Police refused to divulge what the note said, or who the girls were. However, May’s sister, Phong Kieu, is a teacher at Independence and identified her little sister at the scene. Friends of the alleged couple confirmed that the other girl was Dorothy.
Instagram posts from Dorothy (accounts now taken down) show the two girls cuddled up and looking happy together, sharing sweet messages about each other; in one pic, according to Daily Mail, Dorothy wrote that she had liked May since the 5th grade!
Poor Phong had to find out about her sister’s death just like everyone else at the school. When she heard that the two victims were sophomore girls, she became concerned and called the front office to ask for the number of May’s first period teacher. When they put her on hold, and the school’s vice principal came into the classroom to escort her to his private office, she knew the worst had happened. May was dead.
A candlelight vigil for the girls is scheduled for 7:00pm local time on Saturday, February 13 at Independence High School. It’s going to be a beautiful event attended to so many members of this close-knit community. Phong has set up a GoFundMe account to help raise money to pay for May’s funeral costs.
