This is getting ugly! Donald Trump took the GOP debate to a nasty place on Feb. 13 after taking aim at Jeb Bush’s brother, former President George W. Bush, by claiming that he failed to keep America safe during the 9/11 attacks!
And the war wages on! Donald Trump, 69, went after Jeb Bush, 62, once again during the Republican presidential debate on Feb. 13, only this time he decided to bring his family into the mix! On the topic of national security, Trump took aim at both Jeb and his brother, former President George W. Bush, claiming that they “didn’t keep us safe” during the September 11 attacks. And needless to say, Jeb was having none of that!
Donald and Jeb have a storied history of exchanging barbs during the 2016 presidential election race, but Trump’s latest thrust may be one of his sharpest, if not nastiest, yet! It all went down after Trump was asked about previous comments he made regarding President Bush’s presidency and the topic of national security. “Obviously the war in Iraq was a big, fat mistake,” said Trump. “Obviously, it was a mistake. George Bush made a mistake. You call it whatever you want, but I’ll tell you, they lied. They said there were weapons of mass destruction, and there were none. And they knew there were none.”
Well, needless to say, Jeb wasn’t going to take the attacks against his family lying down. “I’m stick and tired of Obama blaming my brother for all of the problems he’s had. I could care less about the insults Donald Trump gives me. It’s a blood sport for him, He enjoys it and I’m glad he’s happy about it. While he was building a reality TV show, my brother was building a security apparatus to keep us safe and I’m proud of what he did.”
It was at that point that Trump interrupted, pointing out that 9/11 happened while George W. Bush was in office — and was greeted with a round of angry boos. “I lost hundreds of friends when the World Trade Center came down during the reign of George Bush.” Wow. What a low blow!
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, 44, who hasn’t exactly been an ally of Jeb in recent months, even joined with the former Florida governor in arguing that President Bush had kept the nation safe, which again led to Trump saying “the World Trade center came down” during Bush’s presidency.
Donald has been causing controversy left and right ever since he announced he was running for POTUS, so we can’t say we’re surprised that TK took aim at him during the televised debate. In addition to winning the New Hampshire primaries on Feb. 9, the GOP frontrunner recently got under his competitors’ skin when he found an ingenious way of calling opponent Ted Cruz, 45, the “P” word without actually having to take the heat for it. Trump was at a Feb. 8 campaign appearance in New Hampshire when an audience member called Ted a ‘”p****,” at which point the artful Donald took the chance to use it on stage to his advantage.
“She just said a terrible thing. You know what she said? Shout it out ’cause I don’t wanna…” he said in between giggles. “You’re not allowed to say that, and I never expect to hear that from you again,” he pretend-scolds the woman before telling the audience, “She said ‘he’s a p****.’ Terrible…terrible,” he added in pretend offense, though still clearly pleased with himself.
Though his actions couldn’t be any less presidential if he tried, Donald still believe that’s he’s going to be the best president this world has ever seen — a fact he made sure to share with his fans following his win in New Hampshire on Feb. 9. “I am going to be the greatest jobs president that God ever created, you can believe that!” he promised during his acceptance speech, saying that issue is one that is getting people “so energized.” He then promised that it was on to South Carolina, where he would begin campaigning for the nation’s next upcoming primary, which of course, he pledged to win. Yeah, we’ll just see about that Donald.
