Is Melissa McCarthy preparing to hit the stage with Kanye West during his upcoming ‘Saturday Night Live’ performance?! The comedian certainly appears to be auditioning for the role in these hilarious new promos, in which she can be seen rapping a never-before-heard Yeezy song to boot! Watch it here!
Seriously, who knew Melissa McCarthy could rap?! The actress and all-around funny woman gave a hilarious preview of what she’ll be bringing to the table as host of Saturday Night Live on Feb. 13 with musical guest Kanye West, and we’re beyond excited! In addition to being her usual, comedic self, Melissa also debuted some pretty spot-on Yeezy-like rap skills, which now has us wondering: Could she be planning a duet with Kanye on stage?!
In the latest promos for the show, Melissa takes a break from her SNL rehearsals to get a manicure — in nail polish colors like “Saturday Night” and “Candy Whore” mind you — alongside cast member Vanessa Bayer. Naturally, the girls get to talking about that night’s musical guest, Kanye West, at which point Melissa jokingly shares that her favorite Yeezy track is “Butterscotch Man” — a fake tune that she swears is off his “third or fifteenth album.”
While that’s all funny enough as it is (I mean seriously, can you imagine Kanye having an actual song called “Butterscotch Man”?!), Melissa goes on to rap a few bars from the made-up track, free-styling versus like: “Butterscotch man, tater tot, yam. Put it in my ham (ham), butterscotch man.” Ok, so it’s not exactly on par with say “Wolves” or “No More Parties in L.A.,” but you got to admit, it’s catchy nonetheless!
Seeing as how SNL‘s promos tend to hint at what’s to come in that week’s episode, we can’t help but wonder if maybe this is Melissa’s way of hinting (whether to the audience or Kanye himself) that she wouldn’t mind getting up on stage and dropping a few beats with him. Let’s not forget, both Melissa and Kanye have been known to do some pretty wild and unexpected things in the past, so it’s not totally inconceivable that they might team up together on Saturday — whether that’s in a musical performance or one of the no doubt hilarious sketches that she has planned for us. Either way, this is bound to be an episode you’re not going to want to miss!
Oh, and just in case you’re still wondering what a Kanye version of “Butterscotch Man” might sound like, fast-forward to the end of the video to hear impressions master Jay Pharoah perform the track as Yeezy himself. It’s so spot-on, it’s scary!
