Politics can sure make you hungry. During the New Hampshire primary on Feb. 9, MSNBC anchor Chris Hayes called the Democratic presidential candidate Bernie ‘Sandwiches’ instead of Sanders, and that was all the Internet needed to create some hilarious memes. Click to see them!
Chris Hayes, 36, might have been thinking about grabbing a late night snack following the New Hampshire primary. The MSNBC anchor flubbed the name of the primary winner, Bernie Sanders, 74, and thus the glorious #BernieSandwich meme was born!
During one of the exciting moments of the Feb. 9 primary, Chris personally “felt the Bern” after screwing up the Vermont senator’s name following his dramatic victory over Hillary Clinton, 68. Chris tried to recover after calling him “Bernie Sandwiches,” but it was clear that he knew the Internet was going to turn his screw-up into the hottest political meme since “Ronald Raven.”
Chris tried to play off the flub. “In my defense, I was literally watching being served dinner when I said ‘Bernie Sandwiches,'” he tweeted. That’s a likely story, Chris. The Internet wasn’t that forgiving because in came the memes! You can pick out your personal political playlist for the 2016 election by signing up to stream unlimited and ad-free music here.
So, there were plenty of #BernieSandwiches to choose from, from Reubens to roast beef to even paninis. One user rejected corporate sandwiches in favor of #BernieSandwiches, while another turned the snack into the hottest new item on the Dollar Menu (though they said that “consuming too many gives me #HeartBern.”)

While Hillary didn’t win the New Hampshire primary, she clearly won the meme game. While her Republican rivals were holding a debate on Feb. 6, Hillary hilariously shaded everyone from Donald Trump, 69, to Chris Christie, 53, by live tweeting the event. Plus, with Hillary currently polling ahead of Bernie in South Carolina, per the Washington Post, she might just enjoy herself a Pulled Pork Bernie Sandwich at her opponent’s expense.
What did you think about the #BernieSandwiches memes, HollywoodLifers? Funny or dull?
