Cam Newton doesn’t give a hoot if he was a ‘sore loser’ after the Super Bowl on Feb. 7, and he’s not going to apologize for his behavior! The Carolina Panthers quarterback was understandably upset after the game, and he says he ‘won’t conform’ to anyone. See what else he said, here.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, 26, knows he threw a little bit of a tantrum after losing the Super Bowl on Feb. 7, but he doesn’t feel bad about it one bit. He stands behind all of his actions and he’s definitely not apologizing. As a matter of fact, he says he “won’t conform” to anyone, ever. Here’s why he’s so adamant he did nothing wrong.
Cam wears his heart on his sleeve, and when he lost the Super Bowl on Feb. 7 was no exception! He was totally pissed that his team lost, and he showed it by covering his head and refusing to answer questions at the post-game press conference. Once he had some time to cool down, he told SportsNet that he doesn’t regret his behavior. “Show me a good loser and I’ll show you a loser,” he said, cleaning out his locker for the season. “If I offended anybody that’s cool, but I know who I am and I’m not about to conform nor bend for anybody’s expectations because yours or anybody’s expectations would never exceed mine,” said Cam, who believes that the media has blown his reaction out of proportion. He still sees nothing wrong with how he acted. “Who are you to say that your way is right? I have all of these people who are condemning and saying this, that and the third, but what makes your way right?,” says the player.
“When you invest so much time and sacrifice so much and things don’t go as planned, I think emotions take over,” Newton said. “I think that is what happens.” His tea gathered around him to show support, gushing “We love you, Cam!” Even his coach Ron Rivera says that despite not loving his reaction, he understands it.
“That’s who he is. He hates to lose, that’s the bottom line,” Rivera said. “That is what you love in him. I would much rather have a guy who hates to lose than a guy who accepts it. The guy who accepts it, you might as well just push him out of your locker room because you don’t want him around. That is a beauty of a guy like that — he wants to win and his teammates know it. That is what it is about. We don’t play this game for a participation trophy. We want to win.”
