How’s this for an election shocker?! Just before the first primary election, someone new is thinking about getting his name on the ballot: former New York mayor and media mogul Michael Bloomberg! We have all the details of the surprise, right here.
This is crazy! Former New York City mayor and media mogul Michael Bloomberg, 73, announced for the first time on Feb. 8 that he’s considering joining the 2016 presidential race. He says that the other candidates including Hillary Clinton, 68, and Donald Trump, 69, are an “outrage”, and he wants to give the voters another option. Here’s what we know about the shocking announcement.
Michael surprisingly admitted to the Financial Times on Feb. 8 that he is actually considering a run for president. When the outlet asked him if an announcement was in order, he said he was “looking at all the options.” The former beloved mayor of New York City and prolific businessman is appalled by the current candidates on both sides of the line, and he wants to offer the public a dramatically different option.
“I find the level of discourse and discussion distressingly banal and an outrage and an insult to the voters,” said Michael, admitting he believes that American citizens deserve “a lot better“. that Donald, Hillary and the others. Michael considered himself a Democrat up until 2001, then switching to the Republican side just before becoming mayor in 2002.
However, in 2007 he decided he didn’t agree with all of their stances, namely gun control and the environment. He has been an Independent ever since, and would run as an Independent candidate using his own money – NBC News estimates about $1 billion of his own money. Michael would need to announce his candidacy by March in order to stand a chance.
