Whose thunder is he trying to steal? Marshawn Lynch may have just announced his retirement during Super Bowl 50 in the most enigmatic way possible — with a simple tweet of some hanging cleats. Click here for details.
Did Marshawn Lynch, 29, just announce his retirement? Well, if his latest tweet is anything to go by then it appears he may have just called it a day! The Seattle Seahawks running back shared a photo of a pair of cleats hung up in what appears to be a cryptic message to fans with a “peace out” emoji. He’s never been a man for many words and hates media attention, so if his NFL career has really come to an end, this is TOTALLY the way Marshawn would do it.
The all-pro didn’t officially confirm his retirement, but did post an emoji with a victory sign in his caption so we’re guessing that his exit from the League could be soon. He missed the latter half the Seahawks 2015 season following sports-related hernia surgery, but came back into play against the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Divisional round of the playoffs, but didn’t have much of an impact, as the Seahawks went on to have their season end in a 31-24 loss. We definitely missed his dominant presence in the 2016 Super Bowl since the Seahawks missed the cut after two straight years in the big game. In the 2014 Super Bowl, Marshawn helped the team completely crush the Denver Broncos and won the NFL Championship as a result. Unfortunately in 2015’s big game, the team lost after Head Coach Pete Carroll made the absolute worst call in the world in the final moments of Super Bow 49 that would have sealed Seattle’s second straight SB win, but it caused a Russell Wilson interception so close to the end zone and a loss to the New England Patriots as a result.
