Leave it to Bernie Sanders to absolutely destroy his ‘SNL’ debut! The democratic presidential candidate made a surprising, but welcome addition to the Larry David-hosted episode, appearing alongside his doppleganger in a sketch about the Titanic. Click through to watch!
Can you imagine being on the Titanic and seeing Bernie Sanders next to you? That was the premise of his Saturday Night Live appearance on February 6, a sketch about the presidential candidate trying to stop the greedy one percenters from hogging the lifeboats and escaping first. Perfect! Click through to watch and laugh!
“Steam Ship” opens with a group of people attempting to suss out who’s going to escape from the sinking wreckage of the Titanic first: the women and children, or some wealthy old white dudes! Larry David plays the wealthy white guy in question, who believes that he should definitely get a spot in that lifeboat and survive this sinking because he’s got a ton of money back onshore. Not. So. Fast.
In comes Bernie to tell him a thing or two. “I am so sick of the 1 percent getting this preferential treatment, enough is enough. We need to unite and work together if we’re all going to get through this,” Bernie tells Larry. “Sounds like socialism to me,” Larry says. “Democratic socialism,” Bernie clarifies.
Oh, we get it! This isn’t about the Titanic at all, is it? The hilarious sketch wasn’t Bernie’s only appearance of the night. The presidential candidate appeared alongside Larry to introduce musical guest The 1975, and looked like he was having a blast doing it. And, of course, he got out onstage during the end thank-yous with Larry and the full cast. Good job, Bernie!
