Soccer rivals USA and Canada battle it out in an international friendly at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif. on Feb. 5 at 10.15 p.m. EST, and HollywoodLife.com doesn’t want you to miss a kick! Can Canada upset the odds and shock the US? Find out by clicking here!
It may be billed as a friendly, but the intense rivalry that exists between the USA and Canada means this will be a fiercely contested soccer game you won’t want to miss. The USA may be going into this as favorites having not lost against Canada since 1985, but they must guard against complacency if they want to win this one.
Jürgen Klinsmann‘s men started 2016 in decent form, edging out Iceland 3-2 in an action-packed game thanks to a late goal by heroic defender Steven Birnbaum in the 90th minute. But while they may have looked deadly in attack, defensively the US appeared very fragile and could have conceded more than 2 goals.
Canada has picked a squad with a perfect mixture of youth and experience, with Toronto F.C.’s Will Johnson and Ottawa Fury’s Julian de Guzman hoping to outshine US’s midfield general Michael Bradley for control of possession in the game.
Canada also comes into the game in a good-run of form, having defeated Honduras and tied against El Salvador in their last two games. They currently sit second in Group A in the semi-final qualifying round in CONCACAF, so they won’t be easy opposition.
It certainly is the perfect tonic before these two teams gear up for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers that re-commence in March. Even though the US is 16-games unbeaten against Canada, their opponents have improved stead-fast over the years.
