Wow this is absolutely terrifying. A crane collapsed in New York City on Feb. 5, killing at least one person and injuring at least three others. The photos from the scene are totally horrifying, showing the large contraption absolutely demolishing everything on the street in its path. So sad.
It’s a shocking scene in Downtown Manhattan on the morning of Feb. 5, after a malfunction caused a crane to completely collapse and fall to the ground on Worth Street around 8:25 a.m. One person was immediately killed following the accident, and the whole scene is terrifying.
The massive crane fell to the ground, completely crushing cars and even hitting buildings in its path, just before 8:30 a.m., and one man has already been confirmed dead. At least two people are seriously injured after the collapse, with one facing a minor injury, although those numbers are expected to rise, as it’s possible that many are still trapped inside cars.
The incident occurred at 40 Worth Street in TriBeCa, and the FDNY and NYPD immediately arrived on the scene to evaluate. The surrounding buildings are being checked for stability, and it is still unclear what exactly caused this all to happen, but one day earlier, the crane had been loading heavy air conditioning equipment onto a construction site. Debris can be seen strewn all over the street, amid the falling snow.
Obviously, the surrounding streets are closed down and there are tons of traffic delays in the area. Mayor Bill DeBlasio has already arrived on the scene, and officials are surveying everything that happened to gather more details about how exactly this occurred. “It looked like an avalanche or that the roof was caving in from the snow,” a witness told New York Daily News.
