Looks like Zayn Malik has finally decided to play nice! After repeatedly slamming his former bandmates and even trashing their music, the new solo artist is finally acknowledging the good times he had as a 1D member — it’s about time, Zayn!
Since leaving One Direction in March 2015, Zayn Malik, 23, has not exactly looked back on his time as a boybander fondly. In fact, he’s been downright sour about it — until now! Finally the ‘Pillowtalk’ singer has admitted that he’s “grateful” for his 1D past and wouldn’t be where he is today without it — it was about time he showed some graciousness!
“I’m massively grateful for that, and if it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t be here,” Zayn revealed to Ryan Seacrest, 41, during the radio show On Air with Ryan Seacrest. “It’s not because I’m trying to be more successful or as successful as what was going on before, because there’s no comparison.” Finally! The words fans wanted to hear.
Now it’s no secret that fans have accused Zayn of forgetting his roots, but maybe we should cut the guy some slack. Despite his past, stinging words about One Direction, it seems like he’s finally seen the light and is actually pretty proud of all that the boy band accomplished after all.
“I was in the biggest boy band in the world and I loved what we did as a boy band,” Zayn added. Aw! Now he’s just getting sentimental on us. Especially after the release of One Direction’s insanely nostalgic music video, “History,” which includes Zayn, we KNEW he still had some love for his old crew!
We’re not sure who knocked Zayn down a few pegs but we’re sure glad they did. The singer, although insanely talented, hasn’t always had the nicest things to say about his boy band roots. Only last week, on Jan. 28, Zayn outwardly dissed One Direction by saying that he never wanted to actually be in the band in the first place. Ouch! He’s also bashed One Direction’s music, saying that it’s not “cool.”
After all this shade, we’re glad Zayn is finally feeling gratitude towards the band that made him a household name. And even if his kind words are just a PR stunt to get Zayn back on fans’ good sides, it still just might work! At least we can’t accuse him anymore of trying to detach himself from One Direction COMPLETELY.
What do you think of Zayn’s comments, HollywoodLifers? Super adorable or not so much?
