Wow. Usher just dropped a heavy new music video that directly addresses the ongoing police brutality controversy across the United States. Click inside to watch ‘Chains’!
Usher, 37, is sending a powerful message regarding the Black Lives Matter movement and the fight against police brutality in his latest single, “Chains.” Nas, 42, is also featured rapping on the track, although he does not appear in the video.
Advanced warning: Usher’s new video will leave you with goosebumps and possibly in tears. The entire music video for “Chains” is in black and white, and shows Usher walking through the police-ridden streets in a black hoodie. Unfortunately, he’s approached by a police car and shortly after putting his hands up in the air he makes a run for it.
As this is happening we are seeing shots of what appear to be clay handcuffs, guns, and even the American flag… but they are all crumbling. Other flashes show us black youth of all different ages and genders holding their hands up or looking at the camera solemnly, showing their fear of police brutality.
Things get intense when Usher walks into a church filled with older people, because when he approaches the coffin there are pictures of him framed on top. When he realizes he’s the one in the coffin he turns to the people sitting in the church, but they are all frozen and covered in dust.
We then get a flashback that shows Usher crying in the backseat of a cop car, his hands clutching his stomach and covered in blood. It’s terrifying and moving at the same time. Quite frankly it’s one of the boldest moves made by a celebrity when it comes to the Black Lives Matter movement.
Make sure you watch the video in full above to see how it ends.
