Looks like Cindy Crawford may not be quitting her day job after all! The OG super took to Instagram on Feb. 1 to clarify her earlier comments about retiring, telling fans, ‘Never say never!’
Is Cindy Crawford officially saying goodbye to the modeling world? After revealing her plans to retire from the industry following her 50th birthday on Feb. 20, the original supermodel took to social media on Feb. 1 to clarify her statements, admitting that that may not be the case after all. See her full response below!
“Every year, I tell my kids I’m retiring. It’s a running joke in our family. And yet every year, opportunities pop up that really excite me. While it’s true that I’m eager to shift my focus a bit to concentrate on my businesses, friends and family — I’m not making any final statements,” Cindy captioned a gorgeous black-and-white snap of herself. “I have loved being part of the fashion industry for the past 30 years — and if that time has taught me anything, it’s this: never say never. Thanks for all the support, I’m so excited for what 2016 holds! xo Cindy.”
As previously reported, Cindy initially sent the fashion industry into a tizzy after revealing in an interview with United Airlines’ Rhapsody magazine that she had had enough of the supermodel life, and was planning on stepping away from her legendary career upon turning the big 5-0 later this month.
“I’m sure I’ll have my picture taken for 10 more years, but not as a model anymore,” she told the outlet. “And that’s okay. I’ve done it. I’ve worked with all these incredible photographers. What else do I need to do? I can’t keep reinventing myself. I shouldn’t have to keep proving myself. I don’t want to.”

The statement no doubt came as a shock to most, as it came hot on the heels of her buzzed-about new Balmain campaign, which saw her reunite with her fellow ’90s glamazons Claudia Schiffer, 45, and Naomi Campbell, 45. She also recently starred in Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” music video as “Headmistress,” which is basically the greatest job that any human being, model or otherwise, could ever hope to achieve. Still, despite being as drop-dead gorgeous and relevant as ever, Cindy admitted that she was ready to put her high heels aside to make way for the next generation of models, including her own look-alike daughter, Kaia Gerber, 14.
“They are all taking pictures of themselves, or having their friends take pictures for their social media,” Cindy said of her daughter’s blossoming career as a model. “Kaia would be modeling even if she weren’t modeling. All the girls are modeling. They are not dependent only on how a photographer sees them. They have a direct relationship with their fans.”
Who knows, perhaps an opportunity will present itself down the road where Cindy and Kaia can team up on a joint fashion project — a Vogue cover sounds pretty good to us! In the meantime, we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed that Cindy keeps an open mind and at the very least, stays active on Instagram.
