The new and improved Barbie is here, and she looks amazing! Mattel has changed their famous doll’s proportions for the first time in 57 years in the hopes that girls find a doll that ‘speaks to them’. How amazing is that?!
Barbie is no longer only sporting a size zero — Mattel has released three new body types for kids to pick from. Parents who were extremely upset and frustrated with having to purchase a doll that didn’t quite resemble their child, can rest easy — there’s now a Barbie body type for everyone. The three new body types for barbie are featured in the doll’s 2016 Fashionistas line. The line embraces diversity with the option to select from seven different skin tones, 22 eye colors and 24 hairstyles. These hairstyle include various popular looks like a multi-colored locks, a shaved look, even a bright blue one like Kylie Jenner and Katy Perry! Mattel revamped everything right down to Barbie’s foot size. Tall Barbie and Curvy Barbie’s feet that are longer or wider than the other dolls’ to be in proportion with their bodies. Obviously, a lot of thought went into their designs.
“For more than 55 years, Barbie has been a global, cultural icon and a source of inspiration and imagination to millions of girls around the world,” said Richard Dickson, President and Chief Operating Officer of Mattel stated in a press release. “Barbie reflects the world girls see around them. Her ability to evolve and grow with the times, while staying true to her spirit, is central to why Barbie is the number one fashion doll in the world.” Barbie brand manager Evelyn Mazzocco also added in the same statement, “We are excited to literally be changing the face of the brand – these new dolls represent a line that is more reflective of the world girls see around them – the variety in body type, skin tones and style allows girls to find a doll that speaks to them.”
The new dolls can be viewed on Barbie.com and will be available to order starting today on Shop.Mattel.com in the U.S. The collection will be available starting in spring 2016 at major toy retailers worldwide.
