The team behind the ‘Fifty Shades’ franchise definitely aims to please. Could this casting be any more perfect?
Introducing, Mrs. Robinson. Kim Basinger, 63, has been cast to play Elena Lincoln, AKA Mrs. Robinson, Christina’s business partner and former lover in Fifty Shades Darker. The idea of Elena, the cougar who seduced Christian (Jamie Dornan) as a younger man was hinted at in Fifty Shades of Grey, but this reveal is perfect.
The 8 Mile alum (yes, that’s what we’re referring to) will join Dakota Johnson and Jamie, who are both returning from Fifty Shades of Grey, our partner publication Variety has revealed. Production is set to start in the Spring. E.L. James quickly confirmed the news on Twitter as well.
Most members of the cast from the original film will also be returning — Luke Grimes as Elliot Grey, Eloise Mumford as Kate and Max Martini as Taylor; it will be directed by James Foley. Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti are producing with Marcus Viscidi and E.L.
We have to say, we’re pretty excited about this casting — we weren’t sure who could possibly play the woman who made Christian the way he is. This isn’t the first risqué role for Kim. Her breakout role was in 1983 as Bond girl, Domino Petachi in Never Say Never Again. She followed it up with a Playboy spread, and later played a super revealing role in 9 1/2 weeks alongside Mickey Rourke. She has won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a SAG Award. We have nothing to worry about.
Do you think she’ll play a good Mrs. Robinson, HollywoodLifers?
