With the success of his film, Boyhood, in 2014, Richard Linklater became a visionary filmmaker. In Richard Linklater: Dream Is Destiny, his “vision” becomes the spotlight of a story that tells the tale of one iconic filmmaker and the process of creating a film project.
“‘Richard Linklater: Dream Is Destiny’ is a look at the career of Richard Linklater,” director Louis Black explained to Charlie Berens of @hollywood at Sundance. “It’s also really about community and about the process of filmmaking.”
Richard said the process was “uncomfortable,” as he’s more of a “behind the camera guy.” However, he was a total trooper and now the documentary is making waves at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Very exciting!
“The idea was to concentrate on his creative history, his creative life,” Louis continued. “The evolution is in terms of his confidence, but his vision is always there.” It was fellow director Karen Bernstein who pitched the documentary idea, and she explains that when the critically acclaimed Boyhood took off it was then that suddenly everyone was very interested in learning more about Richard. So cool!
