“When I walk, I have to think about every single step, which is annoying and frustrating,” Jamie-Lynn Sigler revealed to PEOPLE in their latest issue that will hit stands on Jan. 22. “I can’t walk for a long period of time without resting. I cannot run. Stairs? I can do them but they’re not the easiest,” Jamie-Lynn added.
The brave Sopranos alum kept her battle with MS a secret for 15 years but she’s finally ready to be open and honest with the world. And we applaud her! Jamie-Lynn’s journey has been far from easy, but she’s finally speaking out because she wants to be a positive role model. “I wasn’t ready until now,” she said of her illness, which damages the central nervous system. “You’d think that after all these years, somebody would be settled with something like this, but it’s still hard to accept.”
The actress, who married her fiancé of almost three years, pro baseball player Cutter Dykstra, 26, on Jan. 2016, credits her husband and their 2-year-old son, Beau, for giving her courage and support. In fact, Jamie-Lynn felt it was important to speak her truth for Beau’s benefit. “I didn’t want him to get to an age where he felt like he had to keep this secret for me as well,” she said. “I wanted to be an example to him of strength and courage.”
“I don’t know what’s to come. But I’m excited for the first time in a long time,” she gushed. “I’ve got my brain and my heart and I’ve prepared myself for everything that could happen. But I’ve got an amazing husband, the best son, and I hope that we can make more babies and just keep having fun. I’m the luckiest girl in the world.”
The star even took to Twitter on Jan. 20 to express her feelings about finally speaking out. She wrote, “This is a hard but liberating day for me, and I hope together we can help others and fight on.” What an inspiration! We don’t know how she does it. With positivity like that, there’s no doubt this woman can take on the world!
