And the winner is… Sylvester Stallone! Don’t worry, Sly thanked everyone from the ‘Creed’ cast and crew and even gave a shout out to Michael B. Jordan while accepting the award for Best Supporting Actor at the Critics’ Choice Awards.
Sylvester Stallone, 69, has another reason to celebrate his epic comeback as Rocky Balboa in Creed. The actor nabbed the Best Supporting Actor statue at the 2016 Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday night, Jan. 17, and made sure to thank all of those he forgot during at the Golden Globes just one week earlier.
Well, it seems as if Sly has learned his lesson! The Creed actor was slammed for not thanking those he worked with on the film when he won his Golden Globe on Sunday, Jan. 10, for his role as Rocky Balboa, so he made sure to do just that during his Critics’ Choice win. Thankfully, it seems Sylvester had a real sense of humor about it, too!
“I’m kind of late to this party, and I’m very, very appreciative of it,” the actor said as he clutched the Critics’ Choice statue. “Before I get into any more trouble I just want to say thank you to my director, Ryan Coogler. He really is a genius, I mean it. he made it all happen.”
Sly went on to say, “Michael B. Jordan, you’re a great, great talent and you’re here for a long, long time. Really great. Tessa Thompson, again, this is a young woman with a great, great career.” Aw, so sweet! And those words definitely have clout coming from the great Sylvester Stallone.
The winner was up against some pretty incredible talent. His fellow nominees included Paul Dano from Love & Mercy, Tom Hardy from The Revenant, Mark Ruffalo from Spotlight, Mark Rylance from Bridge of Spies, and last but certainly not least, Michael Shannon from 99 Homes.
It’s worth noting that Sylvester is the one who took home the 2016 Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor, and that he along with Tom and both Mark’s are also nominated for the same category in the Academy Awards. What an exciting year for all of them!
