Fashion crisis! Kendall Jenner has found herself in the middle of a serious controversy after Spanish clothing brand Mango named her as the face of their African themed ‘Tribal Spirit’ campaign, which some are calling racist and culturally insensitive.
Uh oh! Kendall Jenner, 20, may have thought she scored a great gig by being the face of Mango’s upcoming spring line which is inspired by the African Savannah. But once the company announced she was fronting their “Tribal Spirit” campaign with a new preview video showing Kenny in action, the internet caught fire claiming that a very white Kendall shouldn’t have been the one to head a line that could have gone to a model of color.
The company made the big announcement Jan. 13, saying “Are you ready to take on the next big trend? Introducing Tribal Spirit, our new campaign starring the one and only @KendallJenner. The Full collection launches in-stores on February 1st.” The pieces look amazing, including a black leather mini-dress dress with exotic fringes, as well as the white belted sweater and brown baggy cargo pants that Kendall is wearing in their video preview about the collection.
But many in the Twittersphere have found it super offensive that she’s fronting a line that’s African themed. Some are saying that a model of color should have been chosen to front a campaign with that title, and luckily for Kendall, most are blaming the Spanish clothing company for their culturally insensitive choice in who they have fronting the campaign. Take a look at some of the tweet heat about the subject:
