So heartbreaking! Celine Dion has announced that the funeral for her beloved husband Rene Angelil will take place in the same Montreal church where she married him 21 years ago. But it’s not a coincidence, it was actually one of his final wishes!
This is sad yet touching at the same time. Celine Dion, 47, has announced plans for her late husband’s funeral, and it will be held in the same place where she married the one and only love of her life. It was Rene Angelil‘s request that the Catholic service be held at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, where the couple wed on Dec. 17, 1994. Oh the memories that place must hold for the singing superstar!
Celine’s team announced via her Facebook account that, “According to his final wishes, his funeral will be held at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, where 21 years ago, he chose to marry the one who will remain as the great love of his life, the artist for which he had the most respect, the woman who gave him light and happiness until his very last breath.” How beautiful!
The public will get their chance to say goodbye to the man who discovered, nurtured and managed Celine’s career and brought her so much happiness. On Dec. 21, a “Chapel of Rest” will be open for the public to pay a last tribute to René from 2pm to 9pm, while the actual religious service will take place the next day at 3pm.
Since Rene and Celine have been such prominent figures in Las Vegas ever since she began her initial residency there in 2002, there will be a “Celebration of Life” held Feb. 3, at the Caesars Palace Colosseum from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. It’s the same theater where Celine performs her sensational Las Vegas show, which she has suspended until Feb. 23 so she can take the proper time to mourn the loss of Rene, as well as her brother Daniel’s impending passing from the same throat cancer that took her husband’s life. The family is also inviting people too make a donation to the Azar-Angelil Research Chair for ORL Cancer — www.lavoixdelaguerison.com — a charity Rene founded back in 2011.
Our hearts go out to Celine during her time of immense loss.
