Senator Rand Paul wasn’t there in person at the Republican debate on Jan. 14, but his supporters made sure his message was heard. As Chris Christie was delivering a furious anti-marijuana rant, he was interrupted with a loud chant of ‘We Want Rand!’ Click to watch!
If there’s anything that Chris Christie, 53, hates, it’s marijuana. The notoriously anti-drug Governor of New Jersey blasted President Barack Obama, 54, for not enforcing drug laws in certain states. But Chris’s tirade was suddenly interrupted by supporters of a fellow Republican candidate, Rand Paul, 53.
“This president doesn’t enforce the marijuana laws in this country because he doesn’t agree with them,” Chris said during the Jan. 14 Republican debate, “and he allows states to go ahead and do whatever they want on a substance that’s illegal. He allows lawlessness throughout this country.” After Chris promised that, as president, he would be strictly enforce the anti-drug laws, a chant of “We Want Rand” broke out!
This confused the debate’s moderator, Neil Cavuto, who realized that the Kentucky senator wasn’t at this debate. This outburst was far more polite than the last protest at the prior Republican debate, as the GOP supporters simply stopped. However, they were successful in calling attention to Rand’s politics.
Rand’s stance on marijuana legalization is quite different than Chris’s, according to OnTheIssues.org. The famously Libertarian politician thinks the federal government shouldn’t override the states, especially when it comes to laws about controlled substances. So if Washington and Colorado want to make pot legal, Rand is fine with that.

Rand’s poling numbers bumped him from the main debate and down to the “opening act” of the Fox Business Network’s event, but he refused to take part. “I’ll be taking my campaign directly to New Hampshire and Iowa,” Rand said, per the Huffington Post. “I think it’s a mistake to try to exclude me from the national debate.” Clearly, his supporters wanted Rand to be there, too.
Chris didn’t just take shots at marijuana laws in America. He also attacked President Obama over his recent batch of gun control reforms. Chris said the president was acting like a “petulant child” because he was bypassing Congress to implement some new restrictions. “The American people have rejected your agenda and now you are trying to go around it?” Chris asked. “That is not right and it is not constitutional and we are going to kick your rear end out of the White House come this fall.”
Do you think Chris is on the right side of the marijuana-legalization issue, HollywoodLifers? Or do you agree with Rand Paul’s policies?
