So sad! Well known character actor David Margulies has passed away at the age of 78. He’s best known to movie fans for playing the mayor of New York in the 1984 mega classic ‘Ghostbusters,’ but worked steadily throughout the worlds of film, TV and stage.
Beloved character actor David Margulies has died at 78-years-old, and while you may not know his name, you will definitely know his face. He played mob boss Tony Soprano’s lawyer Neil Mink on the HBO hit The Sopranos and appeared in countless other roles over the years. He most recently starred on the 2015 Showtime series Happyish and appeared last year on Law & Order SVU. We’re so sorry to hear of David’s passing!
David’s most beloved role was that of the New York City mayor in Ghostbusters as well as its 1989 sequel. He was also known for roles in memorable movies like Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Brighton Beach Memoirs, and most recently A Most Violent Year. On the small screen, he was recognizable for parts on several TV shows including Northern Exposure, NYPD Blue, Chicago Hope, Law and Order and Touched by an Angel.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, David graduated from City College of New York and made his off-Broadway debut in 1958 in Golden 6 at the age of 21. He appeared in his first film, A New Leaf starring Walter Matthau and Elaine May, in 1971.
David’s face will still be seen on film and TV even after his passing. The busy actor was currently shooting the TV movie Madoff about the life of the disgraced financier Bernie Madoff, portraying Nobel-winning author Elie Wiesel. He’d also completed shooting for the independent film drama License Plates.
