Sean has been facing a lot of controversy after interviewing the infamous cartel head in Oct. 2015 for a Rolling Stone article published on Jan. 9. Sean teamed up with actress Kate del Castillo, 43, to conduct the interview. The talk was held at El Chapo’s hideout in the Mexican jungle and lasted for hours as the drug czar claims he wants to get “the story of his life told on film.” Now, both Sean and Kate are being investigated by Mexican officials for their time with the prisoner.
In his first public comment since the story was published, Sean told the Associated Press that he was worried that his trip to talk to El Chapo was monitored by authorities. Mexican newspaper El Universal published 10 pictures showing Sean and Kate heading to the hideout.
Regardless, Sean maintained that he has no regrets over being involved, even after Mexican officials want to question him regarding the excursion. “I’ve got nothin’ to hide,” Sean said in an email. “This will be the first interview El Chapo had ever granted outside an interrogation room, leaving me no precedent by which to measure the hazards,” Sean wrote in the captivating article.
El Chapo, who is now in solitary confinement, has been being chased by the Mexican government for 6 months after escaping from prison for the second time. After a long hunt, El Chapo was finally captured on Jan. 8, right before Sean’s work was released.
