Jim Carrey is back. The actor took the stage at the Golden Globes to present the award for Best Motion Picture – Comedy on Jan. 10, making it his first appearance since the death of his girlfriend, Cathriona White, who took her own life four months ago.
Jim Carrey skipped the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton, but did make his first official appearance since the death of Cathriona White, his on-again off-again girlfriend, whose body was found on Sept. 28, toward the end of the night. Jim took the stage to present and we have to say, it was nice to see him smiling!
“I’m two-time Golden Globe winner, Jim Carrey,” he said on stage rocking a huge beard when presenting the award for Best Motion Picture – Comedy. “I dream about being three-time Golden Globe actor Jim Carrey because then I would be enough. It would finally be true and I could stop this terrible search, for what I know ultimately won’t fulfill me. But these are important these awards — I don’t want you just think that just because if you blew up the solar system, you wouldn’t be able to find us or any of our solar system form the naked eye. But for us, this is huge.”
He then dramatically read the winner card. “Wow. You know once I say this, it can’t be unsaid. You can’t not know who the winer is after I say it.” With that, he presented the award to Ridley Scott for The Martian.
Of course, this is the first time we’ve seen Jim since Oct. 10, the day of his ex’s funeral. After the funeral, he shared a photo with Cathriona and a sweet caption that read, “Love cannot be lost.” After her death, Jim released the following statement publicly:
I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.
