‘Fuller House:’ The Real Reason The Olsens Turned Down The Spin-Off

How rude? Rumors have been swirling for months about why the Olsen twins won’t be returning to the small screen for the Full House spin-off, Fuller House. We finally have the juicy answers! Find out the surprising reasons why they’re ditching this reunion below — and what their Full House fam had to say about it.

Are Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, 29, too good to return to their Full House roots? The much-anticipated Full House spin-off, Fuller House, will be short one member of the Tanner clan come February when the show premiers on Netflix. Mary-Kate and Ashley, aka the twins who played your favorite 90’s squirt Michelle Tanner, decided not to appear with the rest of their former TV fam … and we were shocked to find out why!

When approached with the opportunity of starring on Fuller House, Ash was a no-go from the beginning. However MK was more open to the idea of dusting off her acting chops. “Ashley said, ‘I have not been in front of a camera since I was 17 and I don’t feel comfortable acting,'” Executive Producer Bob Boyett told People magazine. “Mary-Kate said, ‘It would have to be me because Ash doesn’t want to do it. But the timing is so bad for us.'”

But can we even imagine this iconic TV family without their youngest and most adorable member? Unfortunately, we’ll have to, but if it’s any comfort, the Fuller House cast is more than supportive and understanding of why the twins couldn’t commit.

Lori [Loughlin] was talking to me about the twins and said, ‘They just won a CFDA award.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s like winning an Oscar.’ It was them and Tom Ford. I get where they’re at,” John Stamos, 52, aka Uncle Jesse, explained. Stream ‘Full House’ Reruns Here!

Right on John! You won’t see any shade being thrown from this fam anytime soon. “They’re family members,” Dave Coulier, 56, continued. “But I think they have a different perspective. When we get together and we reminisce, they were babies [at the time]. So they don’t share those same memories. I can’t really speak for them, but I would understand why they don’t have the same sentiments that we all do.”

Aw! Once a family always a family! We’re happy Mary-Kate and Ashley have backing from their former cast. And truth be told, we don’t blame them from having to miss this gig. So how will the show explain their absence? By playing upon their real-life career of course, explaining that Michelle is absent from the first episode’s family reunion because she’s busy running her fashion empire in New York. We always knew Michelle had an eye for style!

HollywoodLifers, what do you think about the Olsen’s excuse? Totally understandable or totally BS?
