Oh no — 2016 is getting off to a rough start for John Cena. Just three months ahead of Wrestlemania 32, he revealed on Twitter that he’s getting surgery on his shoulder. Does this mean he won’t be able to participate in the anticipated WWE event?!
Even the biggest and the best athletes have setbacks every once in a while. John Cena, 38, is going to spend the first part of 2016 in major recovery…because he revealed on Jan. 6 that he’s having shoulder surgery after a bad injury. Yikes — this is quite the devastating blow for WWE!

“Rather upside down start to 2016 as tomorrow I will head to Birmingham for shoulder surgery,” the pro wrestler tweeted. “Life’s full of set backs but #nevergiveup.” That means his operation will take place on Jan. 7, with less than three-months to go before the highly-anticipated Wresltemania 32 in Arlington, Texas.
The 38-year-old wasn’t officially booked for the big event before this news broke, but with his status — he’s a 15 time champion! — it was only a matter of time before he was confirmed on the ticket. It’s unclear how long his recovery from this surgery will take, but there’s a good chance he won’t be able to fight come April 3. Considering other stars like Seth Rollins, Cesaro, Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan, are also all out with injuries, there’s only a handful of big names left to choose from — uh-oh!
WrestleMania 32 is expected to be a MAJOR event, as the WWE is looking to break the attendance record for a sports-entertainment event…meaning they’ll have to pack more than 93,173 people into the venue. Can they pull it off without a headlining spot from John?!
We think so! There’s still a lot to look forward to when WrestleMania rolls around. So long as they stay away from injuries of their own, stars like Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and Triple H should all be participating in matches, and as we previously reported, The Rock will be in attendance! It’s unclear what capacity he’ll show up in, but he’s made it clear that his goal is to help break that attendance record. We can’t wait!
HollywoodLifers, do you think John will be well enough to fight in WrestleMania 32?
