Uh oh! Ryan Seacrest officially stated who he thinks is the greatest ‘American Idol’ winner of all time, and while doing so, he threw major shade at Kelly Clarkson. During an appearance on ‘Today,’ Ryan said Carrie Underwood is the ‘biggest talent’ to come from the reality series.
Ryan Seacrest, 41, admitted to the ladies of the Today show on Jan. 5 that he thinks Carrie Underwood, 32, is American Idol‘s greatest success. Could this mean that Ryan just dissed original winner Kelly Clarkson, 33? The host certainly didn’t hold back with his opinion — see more details below!
When Ryan was asked who he thought was the biggest star to ever come out of Idol, he quickly answered and said Carrie was. One of the hosts, however, came to Kelly’s defense and mentioned the singer, but Ryan simply replied, “Kelly too, but, you know, I was just on New Year’s with Carrie, and she’s just a superstar. She really is. So I take Carrie.” Ouch!
If you recall, Kelly won the singing reality show in 2002 and was the first to take home the title as America’s newest idol. Then, in 2005, Carrie won the fourth season and was named as America’s next hottest singer. Through it all though, Ryan was always there as he has hosted the series since the very beginning, and will remain with it until its final season, which premieres on Jan. 7.
Ryan wasn’t lying when he said that Carrie is a total star. The country phenomenon took over Times Square for a Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve performance on Dec. 31. Ryan was by her side hosting the event. Carrie absolutely killed her performance with a medley of some of her most popular songs. From “Smoke Break” to “Before He Cheats,” every country music fan was happy this NYE.
